80,000 people in the Republic of Ingushetiya signed an appeal to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, calling on him to reinstate Ruslan Aushev as the republic’s president. The delegation to the President’s office was headed by the chairman of Ingushetiya’s popular movement, Magomed Khazbiev.
Earlier, Ruslan Aushev said he would not ignore the wishes of his fellow citizens. Kremlin ousted Aushev in 2002, replacing him with KGB general Murat Zyazikov. Preparations are under way in Ingushetiya for a massive popular meeting to demand Zyazikov’s dismissal and Aushev’s reinstatement.
