Moscow Helsinki Group Chairman Lyudmila Alexeyeva and Indem Foundation head Georgy Satarov are quitting as co- chairmen of the non-governmental organization All-Russian Civic Congress, a group with about one thousand leading civil society activists.

“We have come to a common decision to relinquish our mandates as co-chairmen of the All-Russian Civic Congress,” Alexeyeva told Interfax on Thursday.

The decision has been prompted by disagreements with the third co- chairman, the leader of the United Civic Front and a co-head of the opposition coalition The Other Russia, Garry Kasparov, she said.

“It is impossible to work with Garry Kasparov. I am against being drawn into politics. We don’t want to campaign for some candidate or be engaged in the process of creating a party. We stand for supreme human values rather than the interests of some party or an individual,” Alexeyeva said.
