A court in the Russian republic of Bashkortostan ruled on 2 June 2009 that the website of the local news agency, Revinform, is extremist. The court ruled that articles posted on Revinform’s website from the political newspaper, Maidan, were of extremist nature. Revinform is run by Bashkortostan’s two main opposition leaders, Ramil Bignov and Robert Zagreyev. In March 2009, authorities closed another opposition site, Ufa Gubernskaya, on similar charges. All eleven Internet Service Providers in Ufa, the capital of Bashkortostan, have blocked user access to several sites deemed extremist.
