Defender of car drivers’ rights killed

Dmitry TroyanDmitry Troyan, head of the St Petersburg branch of the Russian Association of Car Drivers (VOA), died in hospital. Three unidentified men attacked him with baseball bats outside VOA’s office on 14 December 2007.

Troyan defended the interests of garage owners, the property of whom local authorities have sought to seize. VOA has been an active participant of the opposition’s Marches of Dissent, especially in St Petersburg.
