More than 60 representatives of Russian and EU civil society organisations gathered for the second meeting of the EU-Russia Civil Society Forum in the Polish capital, Warsaw, on 1-2 December 2011. The conference follows up on the founding meeting of the Civil Society Forum in Prague in March 2011. The forum brings together NGOs and activists from across Europe and Russia and is set up as a permanent platform for cooperation.

The Working Groups are at the core of the Forum’s activities on the following topics: Human Rights and the Rule of Law; the Environment; Social Issues and Civic Participation; and Democratic Structures and Processes. One of the focal issues of this meeting is the upcoming EU-Russia Summit in Brussels in December 2011. The four working groups have internally prepared policy papers and recommendations for the EU and Russian leaderships.

Furthermore, the Forum members will discuss their future strategy to strengthen their role as representatives of EU and Russian NGOs and grass root organisations. The second Forum meeting was opened with welcome statements by Mikhail Fedotov, Chairman of the Presidential Council for Civil Society Institutions Development and Human Rights, and Michael Pulch, Head of Unit for Russia at the European External Action Service (EEAS).
