Halonen to raise human rights with Putin

Finnish president Tarja Halonen intends to take up the question of human rights in her meeting with Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin in Helsinki on 3 June 2009.

Speaking on a Finnish TV morning show, Ms Halonen said she would bring up issues that have been on the table between Finnish and Russian leaders before.

One of those issues is trying to encourage and find ways for the rule of law to develop in Russia, she said. Good governance is just as important to Russia as it is to any other country, Ms Halonen said.
