ILO probes union dispute at Murmansk port

The International Labour Organization (ILO) has begun investigating an official complaint from the Confederation of Russian Labour (KTR) regarding violations of the principle of Freedom of Association with respect to dockworkers at the Murmansk Commercial Seaport.

According to the complaint, members of the grassroots trade union organization of the Russian Union of Dockworkers (RPD) have been discriminated against because of their trade union membership and because of their union work, KTR President Alexander Shepel reported.

The complaint also pertains to violations of trade union rights guaranteed by the ILO Convention #87 concerning Freedom of Association and the Right to Organize, and the ILO Convention #98 concerning the Application of the Principles of the Right to Organize and to Bargain Collectively.
