We, the undersigned, urge that Vladimir Putin, Russia’s Prime Minister, be placed on a “No Entry List” in the European Union and the United States. Strong sanctions by the West are vital and urgently needed in order to stop the threat coming from Putin’s KGB clique. Putin and his cronies are not above international law. His abuse of human rights in Russia is not just a Russian problem.Under Putin’s rule, Russia has become a “sovereign democracy” and a “controlled democracy.” Putin has turned Russia into a kleptocracy. Putin and his cronies are above the law. Is it purely coincidence that hundreds of the sharpest and well-informed critics of the regime (politicians, journalists, human rights activists) have been murdered over the ten years of Putin’s autocracy? Putin vowed to end terrorism, yet terrorist attacks in Russia increased manifold after he took office. Putin promised to root out corruption, yet corruption in Russia has reached unprecedented levels, in no small part due to Putin’s promotion of his cronies into the highest echelons of Russian government and business. Nearly half of Russia’s GDP is lost to bribes. Putin took an oath to uphold the Russian Constitution. In practice, he has displayed blatant disregard for the Constitution and personally encouraged violations of some of its most sacred principles, including the freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, and human rights. Putin’s infamous “power vertical” is nothing more than a federal system of corruption, oppression, and organized crime. During Putin’s reign, fascist ideology has become widely popular among Russian youth, in no small part because of Putin’s exploitation of nationalist themes. Under Putin’s rule, government-sponsored extremist pro-Kremlin youth groups, known as Putlerjugend, were established and began to hold regular mass rallies and to attack opposition leaders, both verbally and physically.
