Ingushetia: Violent incidents increasing

The house of the President of Russia’s Republic of Ingushetia, Murat Zyazikov, was the target of shelling and machine gun fire at around 4 am on 11 September 2008. The attack went on for about 20 minutes. Just a day earlier, President Zyazikov’s cousin, Bekhan Zyazikov, was shot and killed by unknown assailants on the Nazran-Karabulak highway.

At around 8 pm on 11 September 2008, Khusein Shadiev, the Imam of the mosque in Malgobek, was seriously wounded in a car bomb attack in Nazran. Doctors were forced to amputate one of his legs. Later in the evening, the house of the Ingush national movement Daymohk, Khasan Atigov, was the target of an armed attack that wounded several of his family members.
