NGO activists abducted in Chechnya

The Chechen non-governmental organisation, Lam, reports that two members of their organisation, Ramzan and Bilal Soltayev, were abducted in Argun.

Ramzan Soltayev (b. 1981) was kidnapped by armed men two weeks ago. On 17 September 2009, another Lam activist, Bilal Soltayev (b. 1980), was taken from his home by armed men wearing camouflage and masks.

There are reports that the two young men eyewitnessed the abduction of human rights defender Natalia Estemirova, in July 2009, and could recognise her killers.

Members of Lam belive Bilal and Ramzan have been taken to Chechen dictator Ramzan Kadyrov’s personal prison in Khosi-Yurt, where they are being subjected to severe torture.

Lam is appealing for help from the international community to save Bilal and Ramzan Soltayev while they are still alive. For more information, plase call the Lam head office in Argun: +7 928 40 44 28.
