Opposition journalist killed near Moscow

Sergey Protazanov, a journalist working for the Russian opposition newspaper, Grazhdanskoe Soglasie (Civic Accord), was attacked on 30 March 2009 in Khimki, near Moscow. Mr Protazanov, 40, died of his wounds. The editor-in-chief of Grazhdanskoe Soglasie, Anatoly Yurov, has been attacked several times. The paper is the last remaining media outside of official control in Khimki. In November 2008, Mikhail Beketov, editor-in-chief of the local daily, Khimkinskaya Pravda, was brutally beaten near his home.
