Opposition coalition eyes presidential vote

The All-Russian Civic Congress, which held its 4th meeting in Moscow on 12-13 December 2007, agreed on a procedure to elect a united candidate for the opposition in the presidential elections in March 2008.

The Congress voted in favour of the proposal of Boris Nemtsov, one of the leaders of the Union of Rightist Forces (SPS), who suggested earlier that the united opposition candidate be nominated by a council of respected citizens.
