Russia bars entry to Japanese activist

Russian authorities denied entry to a Japanese activist, apparently because of her ties with Chechens, RFE/RL’s North Caucasus Service reports. Yukiko Kikuchi volunteered to help Chechen refugees in a refugee camp in Baku, Azerbaijan, particularly one youngster, Imran Yunusov, who was badly wounded in the bombardment of Grozny. In September 2008, Kikuchi wanted to visit Yunusov in Grozny, but was deported back to Japan on her arrival at Moscow airport. The Russian Foreign Ministry implied that Kikuchi presented a potential security threat.
