Russia demands Georgia disarm

In an ultimatum to Georgia, Russian forces in Abkhazia demanded that Georgia demilitarize its forces in the area, Interfax reports.

Sergey Chaban, commander of Russian forces in Abkhazia, said Russian forces demanded that Georgian defence forces, police, and other armed units hand over their weapons to Russian peacekeepers.

In the event of a Georgian refusal, Russia would use all necessary methods to force Georgia to comply, Chaban warned. According to reports, Georgia has refused the ultimatum.
