Russian traffic police thrive on bribes

Russian traffic police receive up to RUR 200,000 (EUR 4,500) per month in bribes, Moskovsky Komsomolets (MK) reported. Reacting to MK’s earlier article on the amount of bribes that traffic police collect, the daily’s readers insisted that traffic police earn RUR 20,000 per day in bribes. Authorities seem not to mind, given that the level of bribery allows the state to escape the need to raise policemen’s wages.
