Silencing dissent in Nizhny Novgorod

Russian human rights activist Stanislav Dmitrievsky, coordinator of the Nizhny Novgorod Foundation to Promote Tolerance, will face another court session on 15 July 2008.

The Probation Service calls on the court to ban Dmitrievsky from taking part in any non-sanctioned public events and extend his period of probation by another year.

Dmitrievsky was sentenced to a two years’ conditional sentence for the publication of Chechen resistance leaders Aslan Maskhadov’s and Akhmed Zakaev’s address to the Russian people and the European Parliament.
