Spoiling Russia’s Image Abroad

Foreign Ministry:

Russian Opposition Spoiling Country’s Image Abroad –

Certain representatives of the Russian opposition are contributing to worsening the country’s image in the world, the Russian Foreign Ministry believes.

The ministry’s official spokesman, Mikhail Kamynin, said in his interview with Trud newspaper that Russia was closely following what was being “written and thought” about the country abroad.

“It is no secret that Moscow is concerned about certain Western printed media toughening anti-Russian rhetoric. We would prefer a thorough dialogue on all the problems, including Russian domestic politics, but only with good-will and mutual respect without confrontation and dirty election tricks,” Kamynin said. The full text of his interview was placed on the Russian Foreign Ministry website on Monday [27 August]. [Passage omitted]

“I shall be frank – a considerable part of the tough criticism against Russia comes from our opposition, which, in pursuing its political goals, sometimes stoops to overstepping the bounds of elementary ethics. Where does this odd and humiliating desire to sacrifice one’s country’s interests for personal gain come from?” Kamynin asked. [Passage omitted to end]
