United Civic Front activist faces prison term

The Russian security police, FSB, accuses Yekaterina Fatyanova, chairperson of the opposition United Civic Front (OGF) in Krasnoyarsk, of incitement to violent overthrow of the country’s constitutional regime. She was accused of “incitement to extremist action,” following her speech at a demonstration organised by the OGF in Krasnoyarsk on 1 May 2008, in which she appeared to call on people to take up arms to overthrow the ruling regime. If found guilty, Fatyanova faces up to three years in prison.
